2011 Caulfield Cup Betting Points To A Win For Lucas Or Speed

The rise and rise of December Draw, the 2011 $2.5m Caulfield Cup (2400m) favourite, gets the chance to lift again if you believe Caulfield Cup betting.

While Lucas Cranach, the 2011 Caulfield Cup second favourite was turned in half a point from $7.50 to $7, December Draw remained solid favourite at $2.30 with Luxbet.

From a winter handicap in May  to the Caulfield Cup six months later – the rise has included five wins from six starts.

It seems no unpredictable factor is plaguing the Mark Kavanagh trained galloper though some have doubt he will run the 2400m of the Caulfield Cup of 2011 right out.

Kavanagh is not only training him for the Caulfield Cup of 2011  but also the Melbourne Cup of 3200m, such is the confidence of the ex-South Australian jumps jockey who is now a leading trainer in Melbourne.

“I can’t fault him, he has improved at each run and has improved leaps and bounds since winning the Turnbull Stakes,” Kavanagh said.

“He showed in the Turnbull he can respond in a scrap and I believe he will run 2400m.”

Beside Lucas Cranach, only two other horses shortened in the betting today with Luxbet – Southern Speed form $ 21 to $16 and Tullamore from $51 to $26.

Trainer Leon Macdonald is very happy with the draw (barrier four) and the shape of Southern Speed.

While both his mare and December Draw have not ventured beyond 2000m, Macdonald believes his mare will run it right out.

By Southern Image from Golden Eagle, the dam is by Zabeel a major staying influence in Australasia  for years.

Both gallopers drew perfectly next to each other in the Caulfield Cup of 2011.

While the Gai Waterhouse trained Tullamore drew wide in barrier 15, the specking was based on pure weight of money for the Caulfield Cup.

Waterhouse is aiming for her second Caulfield Cup winner in successive years after Descarado’s Caulfield Cup win in 2010.

While Peter Moody takes all before him, the Caulfield Cup has been a stumbling block to date in his stellar career having not had a placegetter.

He record is unlikely to change with bolter Macedonian a drifter with luxbet from $101 to $151.

Those thinking of opening an account to get  into the action should take up theLuxbet Bonus Bet offer. Initial deposits during the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival from $25 to $500 will be matched but Luxbet – If you start an account with $500 you and get an extra $500 free– not bad is it.

Makybe Diva Stakes To Have Major Impact On 2012 Caulfield Cup Odds

The Group 2 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m), to be run this Saturday at Flemington, is expected to have a major impact on 2012 Caulfield Cup Odds at bookmaker.com.au

Eleven of the twelve runners in the $300,000 Makybe Diva Stakes are nominated for the 2012 Caulfield Cup and with several horses resuming for the first time this season the race will be a key lead-up to the world’s richest 2400m race, which will be run at Caulfield racecourse on the October 20th.

The Anthony Freedman -trained Mawingo is currently on the third line of Caulfield Cup betting at bookmaker.com.au and will run for the first time this season in the Makybe Diva.

The German-bred stayer was handpicked by the Australian Bloodstock Syndicate to be a cups contender and qualified for the 2012 Caulfield Cup field with an impressive victory in the Group 1 Doomben Cup.

Six-year-old Manighar finished third behind Mawingo in the Doomben Cup, at the end of an incredibly successful Autumn Racing Carnival.

The Peter Moody-trained gelding became the first horse to win the Australian CupRanvet Stakes and BMW Stakes in the same season and ran a gallant second behind More Joyous in the Queen Elisabeth Stakes.

Manighar is currently priced at $26 to win the 2012 Caulfield Cup and is also a leading contender for the 2012 Cox Plate and 2012 Melbourne Cup.

Last year’s Caulfield Cup winner Southern Speed returns to Melbourne after a successful start to the season in Adelaide.

The Southern Image mare finished third behind Happy Trails in the Spring Stakes before winning the Penny Edition Stakes a fortnight ago.

Southern Speed is currently on the fifth line of 2012 Caulfield Cup betting at bookmaker.com.au at $21.

December Draw returns to the track after almost a year away with a broken splint bone in his hind leg, which was suffered in last year’s Caulfield Cup.

The Mark Kavanagh-trained stayer appears to be in excellent physical condition and has a strong first-up record.

He is currently paying $26 at bookmaker.com.au to win the 2012 Caulfield Cup.

Shenzou Steeds ($51), Zabeelionaire ($51), Midas Touch ($51), Mourayan ($67), Moudre ($71), Dance With Her ($101) and Efficient ($101) are all Makybe Diva Stakes runners who will be hoping to head on to the 2012 Caulfield Cup.

2012 Caulfield Cup Hopefuls Head Underwood Stakes Field

The Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m), to be race this Saturday at Caulfield, will have a major impact on 2012 Caulfied Cup odds.

Twelve of the fourteen runners in the $400,000 Underwood Stakes are nominated for the 2012 Caulfield Cup meaning that the Caulfield Cup picture should be a lot clearer after this Saturday.

However, the winner of the Underwood Stakes is definitely not a certainty to win the 2012 Caulfield Cup as no horse has done the double since Mummify in 2003.

Equal Caulfield Cup second favourites Manighar and Southern Speed will lock horns once again in the Underwood Stakes.

Southern Speed defeated Manighar by a nose to win the Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) and avenge her loss to the seven-year-old gelding by the same margin in the 2012 Australian Cup.

Manighar is unlikely to contest the Caulfield Cup but is still priced at $16 in the Caulfield Cup betting market at bookmaker.com.au alongside Southern Speed.

December Draw struggled in the Makybe Diva Stakes but trainer Mark Kavanagh is hoping the import will return to form in the Underwood Stakes.

The seven-year-old gelding won the Naturalism Stakes (2000m) on Underwood Stakes day last year, a result that confirmed him as Caulfield Cup favourite.

December Draw is currently priced at $21 in 2012 Caulfield Cup betting markets but that price will shorten dramatically if he wins on Saturday.

2010 Melbourne Cup runner-up Maluckyday will attempt to qualify for the 2012 Caulfield Cup by winning the Underwood Stakes.

The lightly raced six-year-old finished a solid eighth in his return to racing in the Memsie Stakes (1400m) and he does have a decent second-up record.

The Hawkes family-trained gelding is at odds of $26 in the 2012 Caulfield Cup betting market at bookmaker.com.au.

2012 Sydney Cup winner Niwot is another Caulfield Cup contender that will take part in the Underwood Stakes.

The son of Galileo will likely be outpaced in this race but is on target for another crack at the Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup.

2012 Caulfield Cup Odds After Second Acceptances

The second acceptances for the 2012 Caulfield Cup was released yesterday and has led to some major changes in the Caulfield Cup betting market.

Mark Kavanagh-trained December Draw is now the favourite for the 2012 Caulfield Cup and is priced at $13 at bookmaker.com.au.

The English import returned to form with a strong run behind Ocean Park and Voila Ici in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m).

The gelding started last year’s Caulfield Cup as favourite but was injured during the run and finished last.

Last year’s winner Southern Speed is on the second line of betting in Caulfield Cup betting markets.

The Southern Image mare has been in good form in 2012 and ran home well in the Underwood Stakes.

Trainer Leon Macdonald confirmed earlier in the week that Southern Speed would start in the 2012 Caulfield Cup and attempt to become the first mare to win the race on multiple occasions.

Green Moon has drifted in the betting market and is now priced at $15 at bookmaker.com.au.

Connections of the Montjeu stallion are yet to make a decision whether he will run in the Caulfield Cup as he was also among the second acceptors for the 2012 Cox Plate.

Peter Moody-trained Manighar was also a double acceptor.

Moody said earlier in the week that Manighar will run in the Cox Plate unless he runs dour in the Caulfield Stakes (2000m) on October 13.

Lamasery had his Caulfield Cup odds slashed after his impressive victory in the Group 2 Hill Stakes (2000m).

The David Vandyke-trained gelding was a placegetter in last year’s Group 1 Metropolitan Handicap (2400m) but missed the Caulfield Cup because of injury.

He is now priced at $19 in the Caulfield Cup betting market at bookmaker.com.au.

2011 Melbourne Cup winner DunadenNewcastle Cup winner Glencadam Gold, international stayer Jakkalberry and Italian import Voila Ici are all one the next line of betting at $21.

December Draw Firms As 2012 Caulfield Cup Favourite

December Draw has firmed as favourite for the 2012 Caulfield Cup that will be run at Caulfield Racecourse on the on October 20.

The Mark Kavanagh-trained import is now priced at $9 in the 2012 Caulfield Cup betting market at bookmaker.com.au.

The seven-year-old will have his final preparatory run in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) this Saturday; a race that he won last year before finishing last in the Caulfield Cup.

Also running in the Turnbull Stakes will be 2011 Caulfield Cup winner Southern Speed.

The daughter of Southern Image is now priced at odds of $12 to become the first mare to win the Caulfield Cup twice.

Another Caulfield Cup contender taking part in the Turnbull Stakes this Saturday is Lloyd Williams-owned Green Moon.

The Montjeu stallion has been in terrific form this campaign and is nominated for both the Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate.

Connections will decide which races he targets after the Turnbull Stakes.

The six-year-old is currently priced at $13 in the 2012 Caulfield Cup betting market at bookmaker.com.au but will his odds will be much shorter if connections announce him as a definite starter.

The big market mover in the Caulfield Cup betting market has been 2010 Melbourne Cup winner Americain.

Racing Victoria’s international scout Leigh Jordon confirmed this morning that he had spoken to leading French trainer Alain de Royer Dupre who told him he was leaning towards running Americain in the world’s richest 2400m handicap race.

The Dynaformer eight-year-old had his Caulfield Cup quote slashed from $51 to $16.

Americain is joined on $16 by fellow international galloper Jakkalberry.

The Australian-owned Italian-trained stayer arrived in Australia on Saturday and is reported to be in fantastic condition.

The other horses under $20 in the 20120 Caulfield Cup betting market at bookmaker.com.au are Newcastle Cup winner Glencadam Gold, Italian import Voila Ici, 2011 Melbourne Cup winner Dunaden and Hill Stakes winner Lamasery.

You can find the updated 2012 Caulfield Cup betting market at bookmaker.com.au.

bookmaker.com.au is giving new customers up to $400 in free bets which they can be split into four smaller bets , giving you even more chances to back a winner at their great fixed odds.

2012 Caulfield Cup Betting – Final Field And Barriers Announced

Glencadam Gold is still the favourite for the 2012 Caulfield Cup despite drawing barrier twenty-one.

Connections weren’t too upset with the draw as the imported stayer runs on the pace and most of the other fancied horse also drew outside.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained gelding is currently priced at $4.80 in the Caulfield Cup betting market at bookmaker.com.au.

Second favourite Dunaden also drew poorly and will start from the very outside of the field.

The 2011 Melbourne Cup winner has been well backed during the week but is expected to drift slightly because of the poor alley.

December Draw drew in the middle of the field and is another horse that has been well backed this week.

The Mark Kavanagh-trained import is still a question mark over 2400m having only run over the distance once, in last year’s Caulfield Cup where he was injured and finished last.

Lights of Heaven has been the market mover in the Caulfield Cup betting market at bookmaker.com.au and is now into odds of $12.

The Zabeel mare struggled early in her spring campaign but found form to finish third behind Lamasery in the Hill Stakes (2000m).

Peter Moody also has Viola Ici and Sneak A Peek in the race and he believes Sneak A Peek may be his best chance in the race.

“Sneak A Peek has worked every bit as good as any of these horses at home including Manighar,” the leading trainer said.

The five-year-old is having just his fourth start in Australia, after joining the Moody stable earlier this year, and is available at odds of $16.

2010 Melbourne Cup winner Americain, international raider Jakkalberry, defending Caulfield Cup winner Southern SpeedLuca Cumani-trained My Quest For Peace and eight-year-old Alcopop are the other runners at odds of less than $20.

You can find the very best Caulfield Cup odds at bookmaker.com.au.
