Caulfield Cup Tips

There are just 11 days to go before the 2010 Caulfield Cup jumps at Caulfield Racecourse. Now is the time to make your preparations, including taking advantage of early Caulfield Cup odds for a shot at massive payouts. Though, before you put your money down on the upcoming Group 1 feature, here are a few helpful Caulfield Cup tips that are definitely worth keeping in mind when you place your bets.

#1: The First Of Our Caulfield Cup Tips Is To Do A Little Research.

There is no better way to gauge a horse’s performance in a future race than to look into how they have performed in the past at similar distances, at the same track, under the same conditions, and/or with the same jockey.

This year’s Caulfield Cup favourite is currently the Bart Cummings-trained Precedence. He is listed at $8.00 odds at Sportsbet. The four-year-old bay gelding is coming into the Caulfield Cup off of a big win in the Group 2 JRA Cup. At 2040 metres, it is a similar distance to the 2400 metre Caulfield Cup. In addition, this son of Zabeel has recently performed well at Caulfield, running second to Jungle Ruler on the track in late August.  All of this makes this horse a smart choice when putting your money down.

To help you pick your Caulfield Cup winner this year, be sure to check out the upcoming Toorak Handicap (1600m) and Yalumba Stakes (2000m) to be held this Saturday, October 9 at Caulfield. The top runners in these races will most likely go on to do well in the 2010 Caulfield Cup.

#2: The Second Of Our Caulfield Cup Tips Is To Take Advantage Of Exotic Bets.

While betting on the favourite is a decent strategy, it isn’t always the best if you’re looking to make more money. Try an exotic bet such as a Caulfield Cup exacta, quinella, trifecta, or first four. These types of Caulfield Cup exotics allow you to choose the first two to four horses to cross the finish line.

These exotics can be a little harder to predict, which is why they offer more generous odds. If you do your research (Caulfield Cup tips #1) then you stand a chance to bring in some pretty lucrative payouts. When considering your 2010 Caulfield Cup bets, why not put down a box trifecta on Precedence to win with Metal benderDariana, and Shocking to place. Or, place an exacta on Precedence and Herculian Prince to finish in first and second place.

#3: The Third, And Last, Of Our Caulfield Cup Tips Is To Sign Up For An Online Betting Site.

2016 Caulfield Cup Tips & Odds

The Caulfield Cup 2016 tips are out on the richest mile and a half handicap in the world running this weekend in Melbourne as the first of the ‘Big 3’ spring majors.

A final field of 18 stayers will face off in Saturday’s $3 million Group 1 BMW Caulfield Cup (2400m) – the handicap classic to jump as Caulfield Race 8 at 4:30pm (AEDT).

The two Caulfield Cup emergencies – De Little Engine and Vengeur Masque – both gain a start in the official Caulfield Cup 2016 field after the early scratching of Fanatic (spider bite) and Big Memory (inflamed hock).

The clear favourite in the updated Caulfield Cup betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au is still the Ciaron Maher-trained mare Jameka ($3.60).

She has a number of hoodoos to overcome including becoming the first VRC Oaks winner in history to train on and win the following year’s Caulfield Cup.

So will Jameka get the job done for the Caulfield Cup punters or is there value further down the Caulfield Cup odds from the likes of Darren Weir’s mare Real Love ($7), the Charlie Appleby-trained English raider Scottish ($7.50) or even last year’s third placegetter Our Ivanhowe ($26)?

2016 Caulfield Cup Trifecta Tip: #2 Our Ivanhowe from #11 Jameka and #12 Real Love

1st: #2 Our Ivanhowe ($26)

Big odds on offer for this Lee & Anthony Freedman-trainer German expat to go two better than his third in last spring’s Caulfield Cup trifecta. He only carries a half-kilo more than 12 months ago getting in on 56.5kg, a manageable weight for the Doomben Cup winner. Is drawn a treat in barrier six, which produced last year’s winner, and co-trainer Lee Freedman chases his fifth win in the race. Historically the heavier kilos are a non-issue and he’ll be improving on the Turnbull Stakes eighth getting out over 2400m.

2nd: #11 Jameka ($3.60)

Obvious reasons why this mare is top fancy in Caulfield Cup markets, but she has to make history and if successful will be the shortest-priced mare to win the race since Leilani ($3.25 in 1974). That’s a big hoodoo to overcome, but her lead-up has been spot-on and she loves Caulfield. Ideally weighted dropping to 52.5kg and jockey Nicholas Hall stays on chasing his second Caulfield Cup win after the success on Fawkner (2013) three years ago.

3rd: #12 Real Love ($7)

The bookies are keeping Melbourne Cup winning trainer Weir’s sole hope in the Caulfield Cup field 2016 safe in betting, the smart Desert King mare coming off the JRA Cup win at Moonee Valley. She’ll appreciate getting out over the mile and a half – a distance she’s won a Perth Cup over. She also drops from 58kg to 52.5kg and has Craig Williams aboard. Caulfield isn’t her best track, but she’s a definite Place chance.
